October is the month when the Southern Lakes region shows its community spirit in full costume. This guide covers the verified Halloween and fall events across Grand Blanc, Fenton, Linden, Columbiaville, and Tyrone Township: Fenton's October 9 haunt weekend, the free light show at Grand Blanc's Physicians Park, trick-or-treat hours, and the village traditions still awaiting their official 2026 dates.

We confirmed dates, times, and locations wherever organizers have published them, and we say plainly when an annual event has not yet posted its 2026 schedule. Because Halloween is also a great window for seeing a neighborhood at its most social, we close with practical notes on what the season means for buyers and sellers across the communities we serve.

October 9: Fenton's Big Halloween Weekend

The second weekend of October is the busiest of the month in Fenton. Three events land on Friday, October 9, 2026: opening night of The Howling Haunted Trail & Party, the free-admission Halloween Arts & Craft Market and Witches & Wizards Ball at Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation, and Witches Night Out in downtown. Together they make a full community evening in one easy trip.

The Howling Haunted Trail & Party: Six Nights Only in Fenton

Friday and Saturday, October 9-10, 16-17, and 23-24, 2026, 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
13575 N. Fenton Road, Fenton, MI 48430

The Howling Haunted Trail & Party is Fenton's dedicated Halloween haunt, and it runs just six nights in October with a charitable cause attached: proceeds benefit Adopt-A-Pet of Fenton. Organizers describe the event as a haunt plus a party, with food and beer tents on site, so it appeals to older teens and adults who want a full night out.

Tickets are approximately $25 on Fridays and $30 on Saturdays when purchased online, with a small surcharge at the gate, and a RIP Fast Pass is around $50 at the time of writing. Pricing can change, so the organizers recommend buying ahead on their website. The trail is not designed for young children; the free light show in Grand Blanc and the downtown trick-or-treat events below are better fits for little ones.

Witches & Wizards Ball and Halloween Arts & Craft Market

Friday, October 9, 2026
Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation, 150 S Leroy Street, Fenton, MI 48430

Southern Lakes Parks & Recreation hosts a free-admission Halloween Arts & Craft Market on the same day, with local vendors and family-friendly browsing in the afternoon. After 5:00 PM the Witches & Wizards Ball takes over, with dance tickets about $10 in advance and $15 at the door per recent listings. In prior years the ball has drawn costume crowds from across the region.

If you are looking at a home in central Fenton, this is a signal worth remembering: future residents are minutes from a parks and recreation department that runs programming like this all year, from youth leagues to seasonal events.

Light Up Physicians Park: Grand Blanc's Free Light Show

Fridays and Saturdays through October 2026, plus Halloween night, 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Physicians Park, 218 Reid Road, Grand Blanc, MI 48439

Light Up Physicians Park is Grand Blanc's walk-through Halloween light show, synced to music in recent years, and admission is free. The park has accepted donations of nonperishable food and personal hygiene items for the FISH of Grand Blanc pantry, so it is a natural stop if you are stocking up anyway. The tradition has also included a daytime Pumpkin Walk on select dates for families who prefer daylight visits; check the event page for this year's full schedule.

The city and township have historically run trick-or-treat on Halloween night, October 31, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The exact hours are published each year, so families should confirm with the city before planning their route.

Downtown Trick-or-Treating and the Pumpkin Glow Run

Dates vary: downtown Fenton and downtown Grand Blanc

The Fenton Regional Chamber of Commerce runs an annual downtown trick-or-treat where 40-plus businesses on Mill Street hand out candy to costumed kids. The 2026 date had not been published yet at the time of research, so watch the chamber's listings as October approaches.

Spicer Orchards in Fenton closes the month with its Pumpkin Glow Run on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 6:15 PM, a family-friendly glow-themed fun run through the orchard grounds by jack-o-lantern light. It is a seasonal favorite, and we covered it with the rest of the harvest calendar in our September and early October events guide.

Columbiaville and Tyrone Township: Village Traditions to Watch

In Columbiaville, the signature fall traditions are the Halloween ATV Parade and the annual Chili Cook-Off, historically the first Saturday of October in the heart of the village, with street vendors and a kids' craft table. As of this writing the village had not yet published official 2026 dates, which is normal here: columbiaville.org and the county newspaper usually post them a few weeks before an event.

Tyrone Township sits at the rural edge of the season, and neighbors planning trick-or-treat routes or haunted-hayride nights tend to share them on the same community pages used for firewood swaps and volunteer lists. If you are new to the township, introduce yourself well before the 31st; that neighborly timing is exactly what makes rural-lot living work.

Linden keeps the season moving through its craft and harvest events around town, and the Chamber and local business pages are the best single stop once October arrives. In past years the area has leaned on those community gatherings to carry the fall spirit.

What October Means for Home Buyers and Sellers

October is a hinge month for real estate across the region. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was near 6.71 percent for the week ending September 3, 2026, per Freddie Mac's Primary Mortgage Market Survey, up slightly from 6.66 percent the week before. Buyers with preapproval in hand can treat October as a quieter, more negotiable season than the summer rush.

For Buyers: The Pre-Holiday Window

October is one of the best months to judge a neighborhood honestly. School is in session, leaves are turning, and streets fill with rakes, pumpkins, and neighbors out on porches again. Ask your agent about trick-or-treat foot traffic, school bus routes, and block parties; the answers tell you more about daily life than any listing photo.

For Sellers: Curb Appeal and Showtimes

October's golden light makes photographs warm and open houses inviting. Clear leaves from walkways, keep the porch light on, and schedule showings for the late afternoon when the neighborhood looks its best. If your block hosts a trunk-or-treat night or a chili dinner, mention it in the listing notes; those are the blocks buyers remember.

Plan the Month, Then the Move

October 2026 in the Southern Lakes is a month worth planning around. Take in the Howling's opening weekend in Fenton, bring the kids to the free light show at Physicians Park, and walk downtown on the chamber's candy night. Talk to your neighbors while you hand out treats, and you will see these towns the way buyers should: as communities first.

Wherever October finds you, a local team that walks these streets every week makes the search easier.
